2011; MAJOR EVENTS: Terror strikes India again

India was made to bleed again this year with terror revisiting the country. India’s financial capital Mumbai was attacked on July 13 when three powerful explosions, within minutes of each other, killed at least 21 people and injured over 100 others. The explosions took place at Dadar, Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House.

To call the year 2011 the most difficult year for the ruling UPA will not be an understatement. The beleaguered Congress has had to face several embarrassing moments this year and has been in a continuous fire-fighting mode.

The year 2011 saw the emergence of an unlikely leader in Anna Hazare, who took the country by storm through his fight against the corruption. The 74-year-old Gandhian crusader launched India Against Corruption movement to press for a strict anti-graft legislation on April 5, 2011 with a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

sjr kumar Dec 25, 2011: Persistent efforts by PM to bring Jayalalitha to the negotiation table on the Mullaperiyar issue has utterly failed. Kerala has repeatedly assured TN that they will get uninterrupted supply of water even if the proposed new dam is constructed. Therefore any impartial person would never accept TN's stand off. Even Koodankulam project is also in a stand still. The Koodankulam issue shows the shift of public as well as political response to developmental issues from time to time. Can a country like India afford such midway shifts in long term and high investment projects? Where were these environmental enthusiasts at the time of commencement of the project. Since Kerala is one of the major beneficiaries of the Koodankulam project, we have every legitimate right to see that the project is completed and commissioned, similar to the interest of TN in Mullaperiyar issue being the beneficiary. Therefore in the long term interest of Kerala we should raise our voice in favour of the Koodankulam project, so that the project is completed and we get our legitimate share of electricity from there. It is high time that our Kerala politicians understand that attack is the best form of defence!!!
