A House of shame and slippers

Politics took a new low in India when MLAs in the Bihar Assembly overturned tables and threw slippers at the Speaker. Here is a collection of events that took democracy to a new stinking low.



Politics in Bihar took another ugly turn on Wednesday when Opposition MLAs allegedly threw a pair of sandals at the Speaker after he suspended 16 of them for rowdy behavior. As the watch and ward staff lifted RJD MLA Bablu Dev, one of the 16 MLAs suspended from the Assembly, his party colleagues ran towards him and a slipper was thrown at the Speaker Udai Narayan Choudhry. Choudhry then ordered that all MLAs protesting in the well of the House be removed.
